Our Mjölnir rings are one of the most popular categories of rings we sell in Viking jewellery.
Mjölnir which means either grinder or crusher in old Norse language is the well known hammer wielded by Thor, the god of thunder. According to Prose Edda, the hammer was forged by 2 dwarven brothers, Sindri and Brokkr. During forging a mishap occurred which left the hammer with a shorter handle than intended but was still seen as one of the finest treasures owned by the gods.
It's known that Thor carried Mjölnir into battle against some of the fiercest giants and monsters and therefore, became a symbol of strength and courage. After every throw his hammer would return to his hand, and its strength was almost unfathomable - being said to have the capacity to level mountains.
